Pastel De Mole Y Plátano Macho

Not your typical banana cake. Treat your craving for something sweet with a touch of traditional flavor and enjoy a slice of this mole cake with plantain.

  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • ⅓ (78g) Jar DOÑA MARÍA® Mole Original
  • 1 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken breast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 plantains, sliced
  • 1 (17.64-ounce) package puff pastry, thawed according to package instructions
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup sesame seeds


  1. Heat oven at 375ºF.
  2. In medium saucepan, over medium heat, add oil, onion, garlic and sauté until cooked.
  3. Add DOÑA MARÍA® Mole Original and chicken broth. Cook 4 minutes.
  4. When mixture is incorporated, add chicken. Lower heat and cook 2 minutes. Add salt, pepper, and reserve.
  5. In medium skillet, over medium heat, sauté plantains.
  6. Add flour to clean surface, place puff pastry dough on surface, roll out and cut into twelve 1-inch-wide strips. Refrigerate.
  7. Pour chicken and DOÑA MARÍA® Mole Original mixture and add cooked plantains into a medium baking dish.
  8. Remove puff pastry from refrigerator.
  9. Arrange 6 strips across baking dish. Form lattice by arranging 6 strips diagonally across first strips. Gently press ends into crust edges.
